This week is International Week at the U of A. A variety of lectures, exhibits, and films will be shown relating to living in an international world. This year's theme is Living Democracy: Citizen Power in a Global Age. Be sure to check out some of the event offerings, just one LRT stop away from Canterra Suites.
Earlier this week, in addition to Rearview Mirror exhibit, the AGA has launched Chris Millar: The Untimely Transmogrification of the Problem. This Alberta native will wow you with his visionary paintings and sculptures - a true feast for the eyes.

From January 22nd until the 26th, check out Fork Fest 2012! Local foodies are encouraged to try out a variety of local restaurants. Participating restaurantsthroughout the city will be offering special rates for multi-course meals.
On January 28th, the Art Gallery of Alberta will be kicking off a new exhibit. On display will be a collection of new art from Easter Europe. 22 artists representing 11 countries will be showing work in this exhibit entitles: Review Mirror!
Also, don't forget to check out Jazz n Skate, still going on till the end of February at Churchill Square.

Every Sunday at Churchill Square, the city will be hosting a swing and skate event. Live Jazz music will accompany skaters as the make their laps around the rink! While your down there, be sure to check out Metropolis - Edmonton's first winter festival!

Bask in the glorious creations of some of the world's finest ice sculptors. The Ice on Whyte festival kicks off on the 12th. Beyond just ice sculptures, there will be slides and activities for kids - fun for all ages!
Revving up on the 15th is the Edmonton Motorcycle show. All the big players will be in attendance, from Harley to Honda and Indian to BMW. Enough to engage anyone with a passing interest or an all-out enthusiast!

Christmas has come and gone. Now all that is left for 2011 is some boxing day shopping and New Year's Eve!
Join the New Year's Eve festivities down at Churchill Square. Just a few blocks from Canterra, there will be wagon rides, skating, and a fireworks show! What a wonderful way to kick off the New Year!
Also kicking off on December 31st at Churchill Square is Metropolis - Edmonton's first winter festival. Running until February 20th, a variety of free-standing heated structures will house activities for Children. Also, in these structures a Taste of Winter, a winter time version of the Taste of Edmonton, will be housed.
Last but certainly not least, Edmonton (and Calgary) will be playing host to the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship. Games will be played at Rexall place in Edmonton which is just a few LRT stops away from Canterra. GO CANADA!!!

There are plenty of volunteer opportunities in the city this time of the year! Today is the last day to volunteer as a delivery driver for Santa's Anonymous. The doors open at 10AM and close once all the toys of have been delivered to families in need of a little extra help this year. All you need to do is hop in your car, drive over to their warehouse, show a driver's license, bring your vehicle insurance, and you're on your way to spreading some Christmas cheer!
Also, the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton, the Food Bank, the Hope Mission, the Salvation Army, and a plethora of other good causes are always looking for volunteers and donations this time of the year. Remember, Christmas is just as much about giving as it receiving!
And don't worry, Canterra also walks the walk! We managed to raise $1,000 for the Youth Emergency Shelter of Society with our annual Christmas Sale.

This week at the Varscona Theatre - It's a Wonderful Life! Take in the Christmas Classic from December 15th till the 17th. Don't let that evil Mr. Potter get his way!
Carolling more your speed? Well, you are in luck! This Friday the 16th during the noon hour there will be carolling at the Winspear Centre. Just a short walk from Canterra Suites Hotel. The best part of all, it's all for the Christmas Bureau of Edmonton! Be charitable as you take in some festive cheer.

December 1st to the 4th brings the Festival of Trees to the Shaw Conference Centre. Just blocks down Jasper Ave from Canterra Suites guests can enjoy over 100 magnificently decorated trees and 150 Christmas themed displays. Some favourites are gingerbread village and decorated cakes. Proceeds will be contributed to Neck and Head Cancer Program at the University Hospital in Edmonton.
December 2nd marks the beginning of the Citadel’s annual presentation of A Christmas Carol. Running until the 23rd, this annual event is perfect for getting into the spirit of the season. Don't be a scrooge - check it out!
Lastly, on December 4th, City Centre Mall welcomes The Downtown Business Association's 24th Annual Jingle on Indoor Santa Claus Parade.What a great opportunity to enjoy a parade without having to endure Edmonton's sub-zero temperature. Truly, the best of both worlds!

This week Joan Rivers will be visiting the River Valley City. She will be displaying her unique and edgy brand of comedy at the Northern Alberta Jubilee on December 6th. Only one LRT stop away from Canterra.
Also just one LRT stop away from Canterra, December 8th kicks off the Annual Butterdome Christmas Craft sale. A variety of venders will have their cool and snazzy wears on display. Crafts for all ages from toys to candlestick holders to picture frames to whatever else ya can think of! A great opportunity to check some of those christmas gifts off your list.
Lastly, on December 9th the Christmas lights will go on at Candy Cane Lane. Just a ten minute drive from the hotel, enjoy the festive radiance emitted by the colourful bulbs of Christmas joy. Just make sure to bring your donation to the foodbank.

November 23rd and the 24 th brings the Moscow Ballet to Edmonton with a performance of Romeo and Juliet. Performers will be pirouetting across the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium. Don't miss the chance to see this wonderful depiction of the Star-crossed Lovers.
